What is localization, and how does it differ from translation?

Simply put, localization is the process of ensuring that content is properly adapted to meet the linguistic, cultural and business conventions of a local market. For example, is a marketing message culturally appropriate for the target market? Are proper formats used for such items as dates, times and currency? Do all text characters and graphics display correctly in a document, or on a web page? Do translated files compile and execute correctly? Do all links on a localized website take you to the correct web page? These are just some examples of the issues addressed in a typical localization project.

Syntes Language Group provides a full range of localization services, from cultural and linguistic adaptations, to all technical elements of the localization process such as localization engineering, desktop publishing, graphics editing, and application and website testing. We are experienced working with all file formats. We translate both static and dynamic web pages using HTML, SGML, XML, Flash, and other technologies. We are accustomed to working with the common desktop publishing applications. Based on the client’s requirements, we conduct software and website testing in our labs, via remote access to the client’s systems, or at the client’s site.

At Syntes, our goal is to always provide the right combination of translation and localization services that best meets the unique needs of each client.
